Embrace the busy season
Featured Dad: Erick Rodriguez
What have you learned in the last year as a dad?
Life has been busy this past year with two boys in sports and a two-year-old that’s going on 13.
For me, the lesson I’ve learned is to embrace the busyness because these seasons will only happen one time, and they’re only going to be under my roof for a certain season of life…embrace those moments while I have them.
I’ve found myself getting frustrated by not having time to do things I want or need to do because of this.
I believe there are times when that’s okay because stuff has to get done, but I have to check myself when it feels like it’s happening often.
It’s a great reminder to work on scheduling one on one times with my kids, and effectively communicating when I need to my time to get what I need to get done.
QUOTABLE
"You only have 18 summers."
I’m not sure who originally said it, but my wife has reminded me that we only have 18 summers with our kids under our roof.
My oldest is 15 now and the reality that he could be out of the house as soon as three years from now is hitting me.
ERICK RECOMMENDS
Simple but effective, a shared calendar with my wife to keep our lives in some kind of order. With work events, sports, church events, and soon dances classes for my daughter, the shared calendar keeps things in sync.
And the book, Every Thought Captive, by Kyle Idleman.
I’ve struggled with depression and battling negative thoughts about myself for many years. This book is a great tool to help understand why I think the way I think and it provides biblical tools to help reshape those negative thoughts with new and healthy ones.
SHAMELESS PLUG
I've known Erick for probably 10 years or so and he's one of the hardest working and humble dudes I know.
